The ESU 2018 logo riddle

The logo of the ESU of 2018 is a map drawn by Leonardo da Vinci. In the portal the map appears on its side because like this it fills the available space in the best way. On our posters and flyers the map is reproduced as it has been printed in the German translation of the "Sketchbooks". The book is quite large:

Later we discovered that the same map appears in a different way in the book "Leonardo da Vinci. Complete works". The book is quite small:

In this book it says that Leonardo drew this map around 1504 and that it is a "Map of Tuscany (Valdarno)"

It took me a long time to figure out, which is most probably the right reproduction and what these blue spaces actually represent. Who has got an answer? Who can locate what is represented on the map of Leonardo on Google maps? The person who finds the right answer will get a small prize.
