Carina Walter
As a computer scientist, Carina Walter’s research is focused on developing innovative technologies in the area of artificial intelligence to support individuals in their daily life. Carina Walter received her Diploma in Computer Science from the University of Tübingen in July 2010. Since August 2010, she is a PhD student of Computer Science in the field of Human - Machine Interaction in the Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Tübingen. In addition, she is a research assistant in the Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Leipzig, Germany since September 2010.
Carina Walter’s three major research interests are machine learning algorithms, signal processing and data analysis based on electroencephalography (EEG) - signals. In the course of her studies, she acquired solid knowledge of these fields by working on her student research project ‘Artefact removal in EEG - recordings during real time monitoring for epilepsy detection’ in collaboration with the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Tübingen and her diploma project ‘Detecting a quantitative measurement of learning in the electroencephalogram’ in collaboration with the Knowledge Media Research Center Tübingen. Furthermore her PhD project aims at investigating the classification of different mental states during learning.
Carina Walter’s future research will include the development of adaptive learning environments which are able to adjust to the individual mental states of each learner using EEG - signals and BCI - methodology. This project will assist students with and without learning disabilities to increase their learning success.
