Folgert Karsdorp
Folgert Karsdorp works as a Ph.D student in Machine Learning and Digital Humanities at the Meertens Institute (Amsterdam, NL). He is involved in the Tunes & Tales project, funded by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, in which he investigates the variation of folk tunes and folk tales through oral transmission based on motifs. His research interests lie in Machine Learning, Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing. In his research he attempts to bridge insights from humanities, notably narratology, and computational approaches. Folgert Karsdorp is one of the authors of the online Python course for the humanities (fbkarsdorp.github.io/python-course), thaught in Nijmegen (2013) and Antwerp (2014).
